Description

The Green Peas, also popular as garden peas, are one of the anciently cultivated vegetables grown for their delicious, nutritious green seeds. Peas probably have originated in sub-Himalayan plain but today it is one of the major commercial crops all over the world. The Majority of world production comes from Canada, France, China, Russia, and India.

Description:

Peas are one of the few members of the legume family that are commonly sold and cooked as fresh Vegetables. Green Peas have rounded pods that are usually slightly curved in shape with a smooth texture and vibrant green color. Inside of them is green rounded peas seeds that are sweet and starchy in taste.

Storage:

Only about 5% of the peas grown are sold fresh: the rest are either frozen or canned.  Frozen peas are better able to retain their color, texture, and Flavor than canned peas. Frozen peas should be kept in the freezer and must be consumed within 6-12 months of the packing date.  Fresh Green Peas can be stored in airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.

Uses:

The Green Peas are generally used for preparing a variety of dishes with other complementing vegetables like Potato, Carrot, Beets, onion etc. Peas can be added to Salads and Soup.
