Lemon, is a species of small evergreen tree in the flowering plant belongs to the Rutaceae, which is native to Asia. The cultivation of Lemon spread throughout the Middle East, Europe, and Africa mainly.
Description:
Lemon is an oval shaped, yellow citrus fruit with flesh that is generally contained in 8 to 10 segments. It has bright yellow skin that can be thin and lightly textured. When the Lemon’s flesh or juice is added to sweet and savory dishes, it provides a mildly tart, fresh flavor. The outer skin of the Lemon, which is referred as zest, contains a lot of flavors that can also be used to enhance the flavor of foods.
Storage:
Lemon can be stored at room temperature for approximately a week if kept out of the direct sunlight. If Lemons are not going to use within a week, then keep it in the refrigerators where they will stay fresh for 2to 3 weeks. Lemon Juice and Lemon Zest can be stored for a longer period if freeze them. Place grated Zest and frozen lemon juice cubes in freezer bags and store in the freezer.
Uses of Lemon:
Lemons are rarely eaten raw but used to flavor many dishes. They are used in Soups, Sauces, Drinks, Salads, Vegetables and Pasta, baked products, and desserts to provide a light and fresh flavor. Lemon Zest is also often used to add flavor when cooking and baking. The composition and properties of lemons also make them a natural health and beauty aid. They are used to fight infections and provide soothing relief of coughs, sore throats, and flu symptoms. Lemons can be used in home beauty treatments to rejuvenate the skin and is found in many commercial beauty products.
