Long Pepper Powder or Pipramul Powder is ground form of Long Pepper, sometimes called Pipli, Pipramul or Piaramul, cultivated from a flowering vine in the family Piperaceae. Long pepper is native to India. The Major producers of Long Pepper are India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and South East Asian Region.


Long Pepper Powder has a taste similar to its close relatives like black and white pepper powder, but hotter than they do. The Powder is derived from rhizoid, which is similar to the ginger root. The characteristics odor and flavor of long Pepper is caused by a mixture of zingerone, shogoals, and gingerols, volatile oils that compose one to three percent of the weight of fresh long pepper. The Long pepper contains the alkaloid piperine, which contributes to their pungency.


Long Pepper Powder can be stored in an airtight container away from moisture, heat, and sunlight. They will remain fresh and vibrantly flavored for about one year.
